Who Is The Nootropic Geek?
Simply put, I am the Nootropic Geek, an avid geek for all things nootropic. Really, aside my interests in nootropics, I am a fairly normal guy: I’m a decently fit and (knock on wood) healthy 30-something-year-old whose love for brain boosters and performance enhancers is split between a genuine interest in health and an adventurous curiosity in my own limits — both mental and physical.
Which is to say that I see nootropics as an avenue towards both health/performance enhancement and mad scientific self-experimentation. It’s difficult to say if my interest in nootropics is ultimately even all that healthy, truth be told.
I know: this is very Gemini of me. (I’m a Gemini.)
All the same, by willingly subjecting myself as a guinea pig to my own nootropic experiments, I trust that the knowledge I glean may at least be of some use or (ideally) benefit to others interested in nootropics, if not for myself. Having said that, don’t get it twisted: I’m not necessarily a transhumanist — I’m not trying to transcend my own humanity, but rather amplify it.
My personal philosophy with nootropics is that if you’re going to shoot your head into the clouds with cognitive enhancers, you should only do so with both feet firmly planted on the ground — in reality. Even if this means I end up with a weird, stretched-out body.
Why I Started Nootropic Geek
Truthfully, I started Nootropic Geek (back in… 2016? 2017? I want to say?) mainly because I enjoy writing. During the time of NootropicGeek.com’s inception, I was pursuing a career in writing, which is about the dumbest thing you can do. Nonetheless, I did it and I’m still here doing it, so it can’t be all that bad.
I’d like to say that I started Nootropic Geek for you — and truly if this website does come as a service for you, that’s great, that makes me happy — but really this site is (mostly) all about me. Except for perhaps the supplement product reviews, which are technically a public service, beyond serving as my own personal archive. (I.e., I’ve taken so many supplements throughout the past decade that keeping track of them helps remind me of which ones I do and don’t like… although the ones that I forget are typically unmemorable for a reason.)
Long story short: I started Nootropic Geek to write, and it’s best to write about something you love, so naturally I made this site about nootropics.
How Nootropic Geek Can Help You
As with any industry, the field of nootropics are full of junk — especially nootropic supplements. Granted, anything classified as a “nootropic” typically earns that classification by having a reputation as being beneficial towards your health and/or performance. This is particularly true of natural nootropics: time-tested herbs and herbal extracts, compounds, etc.
But, again, nootropic supplements, on the other hand, are a different story.
Most nootropic supplements are bogus.
This is where I can help you. Most nootropic supplements you outright should not buy or try. Not even because they might have nasty side effects but rather no effects at all. This includes many popular big name nootropic supplements. And guess what: I’ve tried — and will continue trying — all of them, so that you don’t have to. I do this sheerly out of curiosity (and the innately confrontational nature of Geminis …lol). I’ll help point you to the cream of the crop, while also being sure to distinguish what is objectively a good supplement vs. what I might just personally like. More often than not, these two categories overlap, but I’ll be sure to let you know when they don’t and why.
Likewise, the natural nootropic category is broad and can lead you to interesting nootropic stacking options that, like the alchemists of old, only avail themselves to those curious in compounds and self-experimentation.
So, again, long story short: Nootropic Geek can help you by pointing you to the natural and supplementary nootropics that work while pointing you away from those that are a waste of your time (and money).
